Quick filling breakfasts for hungry toddlers

We all know how busy mornings can be: besides getting yourself dressed, fed and ready for work, you need to make sure that your little one is all set to take on their day too. The one area you don’t want to compromise on is breakfast – a nutritious breakfast is essential for growing bodies and developing minds. These quick and easy recipes and ideas will take the stress out of the morning rush and ensure your toddler has all the goodness they need to enjoy their busy day.

• OVERNIGHT OATS

These little bowls of goodness are very easy to make. All you need to do is take a couple of minutes to prep them the night before, then leave them in the fridge overnight. Ingredients

1 x 110ml Squish 100% Summer Berries Puree

½ cup oats 

1 cup plain yoghurt

2 tsp chia seeds

¼ tsp vanilla essence

pinch cinnamon

Method 

Combine all ingredients and stir gently. Spoon into small pots or jars then leave in the fridge for at least 4 hours or overnight. You can top with fresh fruit, or simply serve as is. 

TIP: Switch up the flavour by trying different Squish 100% Fruit Purees, like Pear, Fruit Salad, or Apple.  

GRANOLA, YOGHURT AND FRUIT POTS

Granola is a great way to start the day, and your little ones are sure to enjoy it. Set aside time on the weekend to prep a batch of granola, then you’ll have it on hand throughout the week for a quick, easy, healthy, and delicious breakfast packed full of nuts, fruits and seeds.  

Ingredients

¼ cup hazelnuts

¼ cup almonds

1 cup oats

¼ cup sunflower seeds

¼ cup sesame seeds

30 ml sunflower oil

30 ml honey

¼ cup raisins

¼ cup dried cranberries

1 cup plain yoghurt

1 x 110 ml Squish 100% Fruit Medley Yoghurt

Method

Finely chop the nuts, or blitz in a food processor. Mix together the oats, seeds, and chopped nuts. In a small saucepan gently heat the oil and honey to melt. Pour the honey mixture over the dry ingredients and stir well.

Spread the granola out on a baking tray lined with baking paper. Bake in an oven preheated to 140°C for 30 minutes, tossing often, or until crisp and golden. Leave to cool then stir in the raisins and cranberries. 

Swirl the Squish 100% Fruit Medley Yoghurt into the plain yoghurt. Top with granola and serve.

• SQUISH BREAKFAST BARS

Sometimes breakfast needs to be a grab-and-go affair!  Give your toddler one of these fruity breakfast bars and a box of Squish 100% Fruit Juice and they’ll get all the goodness they need to start their day. Squish 100% Fruit Juices are pressed from whole fruit and veg, not concentrate, and contain no preservatives. Ingredients

110 ml Squish 100% Pear + Sweet Potato 

3 cups oats

½ cup sugar

½ tsp salt

1 tsp baking powder

1 tsp cinnamon

125 ml butter, melted

2 eggs, beaten

Method

Place the oats, sugar, salt, baking powder and cinnamon together in a large bowl.

Mix the Squish 100% Pear + Sweet Potato with the butter and the eggs.

Add the Squish Puree mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until well blended.

Spoon the mix onto a baking tray lined with baking paper. Flatten with the back of a spoon. Bake in an oven that has been preheated to 180°C for 25 minutes or until firm to the touch. Leave to cool slightly then cut into fingers.
