Mess-free road-tripping snacks for toddlers
Heading off on a family holiday is fun. Make sure your little one manages the long drive by packing some delicious snacks that will keep their tummy full and a smile on their face! These recipes are packed full of goodness and are easy to enjoy on the go.
• MINI APPLE AND CARROT MUFFINS
These muffins are packed with sneaky veg – thanks to a pouch of Squish 100% Butternut + Carrot Puree – and get their sweetness from grated apple. Squish 100% Fruit and Veg Purees are made using top quality fruit and vegetables and are 100% natural. That means they’ve got no added nasties and are free of colourants, flavourants and preservatives. There are a variety of flavours to choose from, with some tasty combos like Squish 100% Banana + Strawberry, Squish 100% Apple + Guava, Squish 100% Pear + Potato, and Squish 100% Apple, Beetroot + Guava.
Ingredients
1 x 110ml Squish 100% Butternut + Carrot
2 cups self-raising flour
1-2 carrots, grated
½ apple, peeled and chopped
¾ cup milk or dairy substitute
2 eggs
Method
Pre-heat oven to 180°C and line a mini muffin pan with muffin cases. Whisk Squish 100% Butternut + Carrot, eggs, and milk together then add flour. Stir to combine. Add grated carrots and chopped apple. Bake for 20 minutes or until an inserted toothpick emerges clean. Transfer to a wire rack and allow to cool. Makes 16 mini muffins.
TIP: These muffins freeze well, so you can bake a batch and freeze ahead of your trip.
• SWEET CHICKEN ON A STICK
These chicken kebabs are filling and flavourful. We added extra flavour and juiciness by basting the chicken with Squish 100% Pear + Sweet Potato before cooking, but you could use any leftover fruity Squish puree you have in your fridge. Squish pouches come with a handy screw-on lid, which means you can use whatever you need then store the rest in the fridge for later.
Ingredients
Squish 100% Pear + Sweet Potato
1 cup skinless chicken breast or thigh, cubed
Method
Soak sosatie sticks in water for 5 minutes to prevent them from burning when you cook. Thread chicken onto sticks and baste well with Squish 100% Pear + Sweet Potato. Air fry or grill for 6 minutes.

• CHEESY VEG BALLS
These tasty little balls of veggie goodness are favourites with the whole family – so make an extra big batch! For a more hearty meal – you can pop a couple of cheesy balls into a mini pita.
Ingredients
1 cup cheese
1 x 110ml Squish 100% Mixed Veg Puree
¼ small onion, finely grated
2 cups breadcrumbs (simply put several slices of bread into your processor and blitz)
½ cup wholewheat flour
2-3 large courgettes, finely grated
2 large carrots, finely grated
½ clove garlic, finely grated
2 Tbsp olive oil or coconut oil
1 tsp dried herbs
Method
Combine all the ingredients then leave to rest for 20 minutes. Roll into small balls. Place on a baking tray lined with baking paper then bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 20-25 minutes.
TIP: These can also be cooked in an air-fryer – 10 minutes tops.
