Delicious Snack Ideas for Toddlers
Any parent with a toddler understands the struggles of feeding time. For the most part toddlers are learning to navigate their world, communicate, and control some parts of their lives and eating is one of the first areas of control they will master. You can ensure that your toddler is eating nutritious and delicious meals with these 5 delicious snack ideas from Squish – easy and quick to make.
1. Steamed Apples and Pears
These can be lightly steamed and sprinkled with cinnamon and enjoyed as a healthy fibre-dense snack any time of the day. Add Squish 100% Pear puree to pack in more flavour!
2. Vegetable smoothie
Yes, you heard right! Your baby or toddler will love this sweet veggie-filled smoothie which includes both spinach and frozen peas!
Simply throw the following ingredients into a blender and blitz until smooth:
(MAKES TWO TODDLER SIZE SNACK SERVINGS)
1 frozen banana
1 cup spinach
1/2 cup frozen peas
1 Squish 100% Fruit puree of choice
Milk of choice ( how much you use is dependent on how thick you want it. If you are looking for a nice creamy ice-cream texture that can be enjoyed with a spoon, start with 1/4 cup and work your way up if your little one prefers a more runny consistency)
1 teaspoon nut butter (*optional)
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 tablespoons of oats (*optional if you are looking for a more filling snack)
You can top with fresh berries or for a real treat, some dark chocolate sprinkles!
3. CHEESY Veg balls
These are great for both babies and toddlers. For younger babies, roll into smaller bite size chunks.
Ingredients:
1 cup cheese
1 Squish 100% Veg puree of choice, the mixed veg one works really well.
1/4 small onion finely grated
2 cups bread crumbs (simply put several slices of bread into your processor and blitz)
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
2-3 large zucchinis, finely grated
2 large carrots, finely grated
1/2 clove garlic grated, finely grated
2 tablespoons olive oil/coconut oil
1 teaspoon dried herbs
Combine mixture and let it rest for 20 minutes. Roll into balls the size of a small marble for babies. These are soft once cooked and easy to soften with gums, but if you are worried simply cut them smaller. Toddlers 18 months and older should be able to manage bigger balls, the size of a big marble.
Place on baking paper and bake in a preheated at 180 degrees for 20-25 minutes. (If you have an Air-fryer, 10 minutes tops.)
For a dipping sauce, mix some full-cream plain yoghurt with Squish Veg puree and voila!
4. Frozen yoghurt covered blueberries
Simply coat your Blueberries in a Squish and yoghurt mix, place on a tray and freeze for one hour. These are tasty and the perfect snack for toddlers for those summer days that are fast approaching.
