Toddler-friendly picnic snacks

Summertime is picnic time! Pack a picnic mat, plenty of water and some sunscreen, fill your picnic basket with delicious treats, and enjoy special family time together in nature. These quick and easy toddler-friendly picnic snack recipes will keep everyone nourished and happy.

• BEANY DIP

Little ones enjoy dipping! Just slice a variety of fresh veggie sticks and pack some mini pitas for your toddler – and the rest of the family – to enjoy with this Beany Dip. This tasty dip combines Rhodes Quality Butter Beans and Squish 100% Pear + Sweet Potato Puree, which means it is not only delicious but also nutritious for your family. Remember, Squish 100% Fruit and Veg Purees contain no added nasties like flavourants, colourants and preservatives – and there is no added cane sugar or starch. 

Ingredients

1 x 410g can of Rhodes Quality Butter Beans 

½ clove of garlic (optional)

1 x 110ml Squish 100% Pear + Sweet Potato Puree 

1 tbsp fresh herbs of your choice

Pinch of salt

Method

Drain butter beans and place into a food processor – or you can use a stick blender. 

Add garlic and Squish 100% Pear + Sweet Potato Puree. Add fresh herbs and a little salt. Blend well. 

TIP: This dip is great for lunchboxes too. Store any leftover dip in a well-sealed container in the fridge and use within 3-4 days.

• BERRY SMOOTHIE

Staying hydrated on hot summer days is essential. This smoothie is packed full of natural goodness – just blitz together all ingredients and place in an insulated tumbler or thermos to keep it cool. Switch up the flavour by using different Squish 100% Fruit Purees – try Fruit Salad or Pear

Ingredients

1 x 110 ml Squish 100% Summer Berries Puree

1 cup plain yoghurt

½ teaspoon chia seeds (optional)

Method

Blend together well.

Veggie Fritters

Ingredients

1 x 110ml Squish 100% Butternut + Carrot Puree

500g sweet potato, cooked and mashed

1/3 cup rice flour or corn flour 

Vegetable oil for frying 

Method

Mix mashed sweet potato and Squish 100% Butternut + Carrot Puree, then add flour. Heat oil in a large frying pan. Drop mixture into hot oil and allow to cook for 3-5 minutes, turning once. Drain on a paper towel and allow to cool slightly. 

TIP: These fritters can also be cooked in an air fryer.
