Healthy and delicious playdate snacks

Enjoying playdates with friends forms an important part of your child’s social development. Through playdates toddlers learn how to navigate social situations, resolve conflicts, and develop empathy and understanding of others. Sharing and enjoying snacks with their friends adds to the fun. These recipes will ensure your little one and their friends get to tuck into wholesome and delicious snacks, without the risk of a sugar rush!

CHOCOLATE POPSICLES
Have a stash of these in your freezer so you’ve got a refreshing treat on hand – they might look and taste decadent, but they’re packed full of natural yoghurt and Squish fruity goodness! Squish 100% Fruit and Veg Purees are completely free of added nasties like flavourants, colourants and preservatives – and there is no added cane sugar.

Ingredients

2 cups plain yoghurt

1 Tbsp cocoa powder

1 tsp vanilla essence

1 x 110 ml Squish 100% Fruit Medley + Yoghurt Fruit Puree

Method

Place the yoghurt, cocoa powder and vanilla essence into a blender. Add the Squish 100% Fruit Medley + Yoghurt Fruit Puree. Blend until smooth. Pour the mixture into clean ice lolly moulds. Place in the freezer until frozen.

TIP: You can also make these in an ice tray. Pop a couple of cubes into a glass of milk to make a chocolatey drink.

SNEAKY WAFFLES
Everyone loves waffles – and no one would guess that these are loaded with fruit and veg! You can add any flavour of Squish 100% Fruit or Veg Puree – or use up the leftover Squish Purees you have in the fridge. All Squish pouches come with a screw-top lid, so you can just use what you need and save the rest in the fridge for later. That means less food waste.

1 x 110ml Squish 100% Apple, Beetroot + Guava Puree

1 cup buttermilk

2 cups all-purpose flour

2 tsp baking powder

1 pinch salt

Method

Combine ingredients in a mixing bowl and allow to stand for half an hour. Pour batter into waffle machine and cook until golden.

TIP: You can freeze this waffle batter for up to one month. Make a batch and divide into smaller portions before you freeze so you always have on hand for impromptu playdate snacks.

BEANY DIP AND MINI PITAS
This wholesome beany dip is so quick and easy to make – add some veggie sticks and mini pitas for dipping and you have a tasty and fun playdate snack.

Ingredients

1 x 410g can of Rhodes Quality Butter Beans

½ clove of garlic

1 x 110ml Squish Pear + Sweet Potato Puree

1 tbsp fresh herbs of your choice & a pinch of salt

Method

Drain the Rhodes Quality Butter Beans place into a food processor – or you can use a stick blender. Add garlic and Squish Pear + Sweet Potato Puree. Add fresh herbs and a little salt. Puree until well blended.
