These 5 foods will help build your toddler’s immunity

What your child eats can positively impact their immunity, boosting their natural defences. Include these five foods in your toddler’s meal and snack times and help them on their way to year-round good health.

  1. Yoghurt

Packed full of probiotics, yoghurt helps encourage good gut health and helps your little one ward off infections, like colds and ear and throat infections. The Squish Yogi range makes it easy to include yoghurt in their diet and has a variety of naturally delicious flavours to choose from, all made with double cream yoghurt. Try Squish Yogi 100% Apple, Banana + Yoghurt; Apple, Guava + Yoghurt; Fruit Medley + Yoghurt; or Pear, Butternut, Yoghurt + Mango with Cinnamon. The convenient resealable lid means you can just use what you need then store in the fridge, cutting back on waste.

  1. Berries

The antioxidants in berries are what makes them pack such power, plus they have loads of vitamin C and are high in fibre. Help your child get their immune-boosting berry fix by including a Squish 100% Pressed Fruit Summer Berries juice box in their lunch bag. Squish Juices are pressed from 100% fruit and veg and are preservative free. Also try Squish 100% Summer Berries Fruit Puree – it is delicious on its own or add as a topping to your toddler’s breakfast oats or pancakes. You’ll find plenty of quick and easy Squish recipes here, like this yummy Summer Berry Swirl Ice Cream made with yoghurt.

  1. Eggs

Eggs are one of the few foods with naturally occurring vitamin D and are also high in selenium and various B vitamins, which are immune boosting nutrients. You can give your toddler the benefits of eggs and veg by mixing a couple of tablespoons of Squish 100% Veg Puree into scrambled eggs. The Squish 100% Veg Puree range is free of preservatives, colourants and flavourants and contains no added starch, so you can set your toddler up for healthy food habits that will last a lifetime. 1. Sweet Potato

Sweet potato is a key ingredient in four of our Squish 100% Fruit and Veg Purees, and that’s because it is packed full of natural goodness that helps keep your toddler healthy. These root vegetables contain beta-carotene and vitamin C, which keep the immune system strong. Try Squish 100% Pear + Sweet Potato; Apple, Sweet Potato + Sweetcorn; Sweet Potato, Apple + Cinnamon; and Mixed Veg. Squish Purees containing sweet potato are great on their own, or can be added to recipes to create meals your little one will love, like this Chicken + Sweet Potato Risotto and these Sweet Potato Pancakes.

Oats

The beta-glucan in oats stimulates white blood cells and helps them fight off infections. A bowl of oats is an excellent way for your toddler to start their day – top it with your child’s favourite Squish 100% Fruit Puree for added flavour. You can also it in their diet by making snacks that are high in oats. Try this timesaving Fruit Crunchies recipe.
